Corporate Atyaachaar: Book by Abhay Nagarajan

Abhay Nagarajan is a first time writer and has his debut novel- Corporate Atyaachaar out on stands.

The novel is a funny tale of a boss, a subordinate and their interaction with their HNI clients set against the backdrop of personal finance, financial planning and wealth management.

While Abhay wanted a review, I am afraid to do the review because of two reasons. One, I have yet to write a debut book myself. Two, the book’s target audience is the young professional between age 25-30 and I don’t fit into that audience.

Writing a book on personal finance is a big challenge because the topic can easily phase you out. Abhay has taken that challenge and tried to make it as interesting as possible. Whether he has succeeded, it’s for the young guys to decide.

Along the way, he has tried to inform about the way people at the financial institutions hardsell their wares. For example, there’s the distributor’s meet where a New Fund Offer (NFO) is being pushed for sale. The compere at the meet says,

I would encourage all of you to recommend this fund to your clients to get a ten Rupee NAV over existing schemes which have a higher NAV. Invest now!

And a discussion describes how the lower NAV hardsell is so stupid.

What he said is to tempt the client into thinking his investments is cheaper over similar, existing schemes in the market. What should matter while investing, is the performance of the fund and the past track record of the fund manager in managing similar funds

I applaud Abhay’s initiative to write a book on personal finance. Especially since I am struggling to write one such book myself!
