The Middle Path of Financial Advisory: RupeeCamp

The Buddha describes the middle way as a path of moderation between two extremes. What are the two extremes in Financial Advisory.

1. The 90% extreme

  • 90% financial advisors have low skills.
  • The service standards are not high.
  • They push products down your throats and not sell solutions.
  • They are almost like snake oil sales people.

2.  The 10% extreme

  • They have high professional and ethical standards
  • They have high service standards.
  • They are difficult to find. (as they are less than 10% in number)
  • Their fee appears to be high and not everybody can afford them. (It’s like affording a chauffeur driven car!)
The two extremes

The two types of advisors

The problem with the first extreme is obvious. The problem with the second extreme is that it cannot be scaled up. Moreover, the reason the costs appear is high is because they can’t scale up and service 10000-1 lakh +  clients.

That’s where a middle path comes in. Or that’s where RupeeCamp comes in!!

The assumption

My understanding is that you people are smart enough to take a well thought out financial decision. The only thing you require is some pointers in the right direction. And by the right guys.

The Solution:

How about getting professional advice, great learning support, strong service support (can be community based) and at a much lower cost?

If the above sounds good and interesting, the happy news is that RupeeCamp will give you all that and more!

The middle path, though sounds easy, has been an unique way. And as a Vipassana meditator (I struggle with the meditation technique!), it’s not easy.

RupeeCamp, too, is unique and has not been attempted before. I need all your support. Thanks.

  1. [...] Ranjan Varma has started Rupee Camp which is a personal finance workshop meant to be a structured program to provide people with money skills. I’ve obviously not attended this so I don’t know how good it is but I do like Ranjan’s blog, so I thought I’d let OneMint readers know about his initiative. The workshop will be  held in Mumbai and the cost is Rs. 3,000. If you are interested in this kind of thing then head over to his blog and check it out. [...]
